WOLVERHAMPTON V WATLING JCB LIONS, PREVIEW

LEICESTER make the short trip across the Midlands to Wolverhampton on Monday for the first away fixture of their Premiership league campaign.

The Watling JCB Lions have three points out of four from their two home matches, although there was an element of frustration last Thursday after Belle Vue fought back to draw after fifteen races and then took victory in a Super Heat at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park.

And the trip to Monmore will be a major test as Wolves have racked up big home wins in both outings on their own home circuit this season.

Amongst their line-up, the opening pairing of Sam Masters and Steve Worrall has proved highly successful whilst Rory Schlein has slotted straight back into British racing – and whilst American star Luke Becker is currently on the sidelines, Wolves call on another Monmore specialist, in-form Scott Nicholls, to guest.

The Lions themselves have some track expertise in their ranks with Nick Morris having raced for Wolves for the last three seasons, skipper Chris Harris has always been a strong performer there, and Max Fricke scored 17+1 in his first league visit last season.

And there is a bigger picture to the meeting as it will be the first at Monmore since Wolverhampton announced the shock news that their lease is not being extended and that, as things stand, speedway will cease at the venue at the end of the season.

Lions boss Stewart Dickson said: “Wolves have started very well and are formidable at home, but we do have riders who can ride that track and Nick Morris is an ex-Wolverhampton rider.

“I would expect a big turnout after the devasting news that they received last week, and we wish Wolverhampton all the best in their quest to remain there for years to come.

“I think they’ll come out all guns blazing and we’re in for a tough night there - but it’s the Premiership, we don’t expect anything else. We’ll certainly go there and give it our best shot.”

WOLVERHAMPTON: Sam Masters, Steve Worrall, Rory Schlein, Ryan Douglas, Scott Nicholls, Zach Cook, Leon Flint.
LEICESTER: Max Fricke, Justin Sedgmen, Richard Lawson, Chris Harris, Nick Morris, Jake Allen, Dan Thompson.
